Stand up gardens should be met with less skepticism than they tend to get. When you can find a functional and well made garden bed that’s raised, it really brings a different mood to the garden scene (in a good way).
I live in Rochester, and I was pleasantly surprised to learn Gronomics is located less than 2 hours away (they’re in East Bethel, MN). You can go to their headquarters and look at the showroom and almost be taken by all the handcrafted wood. They also go by the rustic theme which is what Minnesota is kind of about, especially up north where all the pines line the lakes.
-The smell of cedar gives it away!
-2 or 3 of them placed together make for a real nice patio display
-Easy to weed out
-Pets can’t get to the grub!
-“Easy on the eyes”
-It can be unsturdy until after the dirt is put in.
-The Gronomics REGB 24-48 is probably better left unfinished, unless you want to experiment with staining yourself. Of the Gronomics beds, if the woody nature of the REGB 24-48 isn’t something you care for, then be prepared to spend almost 3/4 more for the stained bed.
Tools aren’t needed for assembly. The boards are simply slid into place. This is one of the main reasons why many lean towards this one (tool-free).
As long as you know something about intensive gardening, you shouldn’t have a problem growing more than you want within the 48 x 24 x 30 inches of space.
This and other elevated planters eliminate having to bend over when watering, weeding, and harvesting, which is many times the main reason to get one.
It has a rustic feel, yet attractive.
Where Can You Get the Best Price?
At most this elevated bed is $330 or so at some online retailers, and I would never pay that much because it’s usually around $200. I check prices regularly and have always found Amazon.com to have the best price. The price is definitely reasonable considering it’s of a 50 pound construction and you can get free shipping. If you’re precarious of price, then this Gronomics REGB is the way to go. If you like the stained finish, then you’ll have to find a way to warm up to the price of the Gronomics EGB 34-48S.
